I wanted to thank you for the wonderful studio in London Bridge, as the classes just keep getting better and better. Both staff and teachers are really great! The same goes for Balham.
I have been practicing for a year and a half and the yoga has definitely changed me in many, positive ways. I have been trying to increase my practice to 5 days a week, but still have some work to do to be able to sustain that rhythm. I will get there though.
I have to say that, during my first class, I couldn’t help but think about how dangerous a hot yoga class probably was for someone like me whom was very overweight, had not done any exercise for a good 10 years and was a heavy smoker. Worse still was when I heard a voice screaming – lock the knee!!!! I was terrified by then, having been a professional figure skater, one NEVER locks the knee, that’s where injuries tend to take place.
But guess what, I went with the flow and my left knee, which was hurting when I first started due to a past chronic tendinitis has improved and it’s in fact practically healed again, I have quit smoking and am finally starting to be able to enjoy it when my heart races in class, to then bring it back down by taking deep breaths and control the whole breathing experience, it’s amazing! Add to that the weight loss and how good I feel after every class, and I am convinced that I have come across something that I truly enjoy doing and that offers many mental and physical benefits.

I started Bikram yoga 11 months ago, I wasn't sure how much impact I could have on my 50+ year-old body, but I have to say that I'm fitter than I've ever been. I intend to do this for the rest of my life!

Would like to drop you a short email thanking you for the 6pm class at Fullham. It was my first time taking your class and it was awesome! You teach with great precision and compassion! :) hope to be able to take more of your classes in the future!
Also, I wanted to tell you how much I appreciated your work in nurturing the 3 studios- Balham, Fulham and London Bridge. I've practiced in so many studios in London but everywhere pales in comparison. The constant heat and humidity of your studios makes practicing so much more fulfilling and it's that intensity that is truly a testimony of what bikram yoga is about. Challenge, struggle and the feeling of having conquered something and bettering oneself. It is perhaps this that makes the hotbikramyoga community unique-uniquely strong! I feel it is especially so in Balham, the students have such beautiful energy and classes are filled with strength. It makes me want to share this experience with all my loved ones and friends!!
I cannot thank you and the team enough for building such a wonderful community filled with Bikram warriors! You guys make living in busy London so much better and easier!

"Where can I start, I went to practice this week thinking I must really thank you for providing me with such a wonderfully safe haven at the Fulham studio. When I go for sessions I feel I am entering my little corner of paradise and come out strong, rejuvenated and ready to take on anything! You have helped me through one hell of a year on all fronts and I am thankful for that.
Your teachers are ALL truly amazing, so please keep growing as not nearly enough people have discovered the wonders of Bikram!!"

180 days of consecutive Hot Bikram Yoga – Madness or a journey in finding myself?
My name is Ian Davies and I started doing Hot Bikram Yoga (HBY) in January this year and got hooked after my 10 days trial. I signed up immediately for the annual membership and I think it’s the best investment I have made on myself ever.
I completed a 30-day challenge in February 2011, and then decided to do a 40-day challenge for Lent. This is were my journey started. On the 9th March 2011, I started doing my yoga practice everyday without fail and completed that challenge on 15th April 2011. The experience was a very rewarding one and I felt more in tune with my body and mind and I was hooked. I decided to carry on and completed 60-day of HBY on 5th May 2011. A fellow yogi Richard had completed a 100-day challenge and enjoyed it and after talking to Richard after one class, I decide to challenge myself to reach Richard’s record. Richard was very encouraging, so we shook hands and I was on another challenge. I carried on and completed my 100 days of consecutive HBY on 14th June 2011. When I got to 100 days I was feeling so good, I had lost a lot of weight, had loads of energy and a always had this general euphoric feeling after a class. This motivated me to carry on to 120 days and got there in no time, saw the improvements in my life and decided to do the remaining 40 days to complete 6 months of consecutive HBY. I eventually completed my 180 days of consecutive HBY on the 4th September 2011.
This journey has taught me patience, humility, to be calmer and more relaxed in my life and be at peace with myself.
My character was strengthen and I found the determination to see my challenge through with a lot of encouragement and support from my classmate and teachers. I was surprised and please with my perseverance and persistence in my approach to yoga practice. At time I had to find the fortitude to remain steadfast in my practice and courage to face adversity and challenges my practice throws at me. I became very focused and nothing was going to derail me once I had started each phase of my journey. I became selfless and got rid of my ego and concern about myself. I remained dedicate to my practice and made the necessary sacrifices along the way on my 6 months journey.
The benefits or side effects of my journey are as follows, I lost weight about 2 stones, developed good muscle tone, clarity of thought, especially first thing in the morning; reduced my blood pressure, developed a healthier lifestyle, and was rewarded with a general sense of well being, more energy, and an appreciation for the little things in life that we sometimes take for granted. Like, fresh air, cold water to drink, the shower
Finally, I think that I need to answer the one question that dogged me during this journey, is this madness or am I finding myself? This journey has helped my healing process since the loss of my wife in October 2010. I was off work for a long period and was finding it difficult to cope and to sleep at night however, since starting HBY, I have been able to accept my loss and put things in perspective and helped me with my sleeping. Sometimes after a late class I normally sleep like a baby albeit a short period but I always feel well rested. I am now a different man 6 months along, I am more confident, I feel very optimistic about life, more relaxed and knowing that I will be able to copy with anything that life throws at me thanks to HBY.
I eventually completed my 180 days of consecutive HBY on the 4th September 2011.

"….Whilst I have participated many years ago in general yoga this was my first time ever participating in Bikram Yoga and I LOVED IT. I would like to pass on this feedback in the hope that it may help fellow beginners in 'feeling the fear and doing it anyway'.As a bit of a gym buff, you would find me more often than not in a gym, weight training which I love and will always do so. However I wanted to challenge my mind and my body in a different way as a woman in her early 40's.
As someone always looking for a challenge I did not wish to do just any form of yoga but one that would be initially a challenge and yoga in a room of 40 degrees is a challenge! Our instructor was warm and welcoming to myself and the other beginners in the class .She explained clearly to us what to expect and what to do as a beginner. She was also clear in her instructions and a true professional throughout.I actually found the warm-up the most challenging part of the class but I think that was more because of the initial adapting of the body, brain and breathing to the heat rather than any major difficulty with the poses and my advice to beginners would be to stay really focused throughout the warm-up, concentrate on your breathing, stay calm and do what you can and before you know it the you are on your way.
The sense of achievement after the 90 minutes class was up was amazing and I am looking forward to returning to class tomorrow."

"…I consider Bikram Yoga has really helped me re-align my life, steady myself and help me become a better person in an unbelievable succession of bad news in my life. I can now safely say that I am starting to look at my eyes in that mirror. Thank you Hot Bikram Yoga for helping me get through the worst and helping me start to move to a better place :)"

"…I know that you really try to create a sense of community at your studio and I thought it would be good for you to hear that, indeed, you do! I have made such great friends who support me on my yoga journey and I cannot commend the teachers enough….I did standing head to knee for the first time about 10 days ago! Wahoo!
I didn't start Bikram to lose weight, but I must add that I have lost a stone and my body fat percentage has significantly decreased. I also have not had ONE single cold virus in over 12 months. This is very rare for me, as I work in a school! And....I quite like my new lovely leg and arm muscles! Most importantly, Bikram has broken down barriers and allowed me to FINALLY (at the ripe old age of 34) better know and understand my true self. I feel that I can finally balance all levels- physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental.
Staring at myself in the mirror each day in the yoga room, I am faced with ME, a beautiful soul with loads of clutter. Bikram clears the clutter and I have peace."

"It was back in 2004 that I had my first experience with Bikram Yoga, I have to be honest it was the word 'sweat' that was the key deal breaker in persuading me to try it. I had always felt 'yoga' was just a spiritual thing where you did a few poses and chanted a lot.I prefer to use my time doing activities that make you work hard and produce sweat to prove it rather than humming. I'd stopped playing professional tennis and was working as a coach for the British Federation (Lawn Tennis Association) which meant travelling around the world where Bikram is now widespread, YET Jersey was the place I first stumbled on Bikram yoga, 7pm on a Friday night in 2004 was the day I became hooked! I'm not sure where to begin in talking about all the benefits, it just seems to tick all the boxes.Myself as a tennis player, or anyone who puts themselves through a physical pounding regularly, all know we have to give something back to our bodies. The fact it is non-impact allows your body a welcome break from all the hours of running around on hard surfaces.
It's a fantastic full body stretch, in normal temperatures nobody can really be bothered to stretch as much as they should, the heat enables you to safely stretch deeper. It also helps you realign your body. As you can imagine playing tennis makes you much stronger on one side of the body because you over use the same muscles from the pure volume of repetition you get from hitting thousands and thousands of ball, making you become lop sided. The Bikram poses help to even the body out, and over time with regular practice your posture and muscles return closer to their natural state. All the standing exercises require balance and stability which is vital for tennis, because you need to be balanced when you move and hit the ball on a tennis court.
The mental focus and discipline is probably the part I feel got me hooked, this is such a vital part of being successful in tennis (or anything in life) being able to keep one's concentration while balanced on one leg, with sweat annoyingly trickling down your body and your mind shouting a 101 reasons why you should leave the room prepares you for any challenge you are faced with on the match court!
Finally the added bonus is the internal benefits that are on going throughout and after each class. I am pleased to say I have passed on my find to many of the British Tennis players, I have to admit that there was an element of physical force in getting them to go at the start, but now I'm pleased to say a lot of them are finally realising the huge benefit Bikram Yoga brings."

"I finished the marathon on Sunday in 6 and a half hours in last place, but am thrilled that I have recovered so well. I'm already thinking about my next one. I went to Bikram this morning which was impressively bad, but afterwards I felt amazing.
I am so grateful for discovering Bikram and I agree...without it, I wouldn't have been able to manage a marathon in less than 9 weeks training (including at least 2 weeks off for injury/illness)."

"I absolutely love the Balham studio and will probably still drop in for the occasional class. I only started coming to Bikram about 2 years ago and it has done wonders for my physique and sense of wellbeing. Without getting too 'heavy" Bikram yoga really helped me through quite a traumatic period in my life and I'd like to thank you for bringing Bikram to Balham!"
